Arunachal Governor pays tribute to martyrs of 1962 Indo-China war at Walong

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lieutenant General (Retired) KT Parnaik and Lieutenant General AS Pendharkar on Thursday paid tribute to the Army officers who were martyred in the 1962 Indo-China War in Anjaw district’s Walong.
The Governor participated in the final day of the month-long commemoration of the 62nd Walong Day, which was held at Walong War Memorial. During the event, the renovated Walong War Memorial was also inaugurated and opened to the public.
The Army invited veterans of the war and the next of kin of the martyred soldiers to take part in the ceremony on Thursday, held in recognition of the courage and sacrifice of them and their loved ones who served the nation with honour.
The two-day-long closing ceremony saw performances by a Symphony band and a captivating light and sound show. The veterans and the kin of the martyred soldiers lay wreath, which was followed by traditional performance by armed forces personnel. Apart from that two new song compositions were sung and then ceremoniously released.
The month-long commemoration included a cycling expedition from Namsai to Namti, White Water Rafting in Lohit river, battlefield treks to actual battle locations in Walong Sector, a motorcycle expedition from Mipi to Meshai and medical camps for locals in Walong, Kibithu and Anini.
The events underscored the Indian Army’s commitment to boost development in the frontier villages and promoting border tourism in Arunachal Pradesh, the Army said.
